Watching Miss America 2016 in my city of Las Vegas yesterday evening was very inspiring. Just a week after America celebrates Memorial Day, we selected and crowned the most fitting winner of the Miss America Pageant, Miss Deshauna Barber.
SEEMA STYLE FUN FACT: Deshauna Barber is a logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit of the United States Army in Fort Meade, Maryland. She is also an IT analyst for the United States Department of Commerce and plans to use her reign as Miss USA to focus on PTSD treatment for soldiers returning from the war. #Inspiration
They’re are so many beautiful and talented women that grace us on and off the stage. Miss America empowers young women everywhere to achieve their dreams by giving them a voice to inspire and honor their commitment to helping others. Last night, Miss Deshauna Barber did just that, Her final question of the evening really crowned her the title.
JUDGE JOE ZEE | “The Pentagon recently made the decision to open up all combat jobs to women. Now some have questioned if this has put political correctness over our military’s ability to perform at the highest level. What are your thoughts?”
MISS DESHAUNA BARBER | “As a woman in the United States Army, I think … we are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated,” Deshauna Barber said. “Gender does not limit us in the United States.”
