I was very honored to be invited to The Moyer Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic this year. The event was held at the beautiful and scenic Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, California. Torrey Pines Golf Club brings back many good memories from my childhood where I had played several Junior World Championships and amateur events. I am happy to be able to share more memories at Torrey Pines GC with The Moyer Foundation!
THE MISSION: The Moyer Foundation mission is to provide comfort, hope and healing to children affected by loss and family addiction. Through the generosity of a giving community, The Moyer Foundation supports programs that directly serve critical needs of children in severe distress. The Moyer Foundation has raised millions of dollars to support hundreds of different programs that help children in distress in a variety of ways.
The opening reception and gala was hosted at the beautiful Hilton La Jolla at Torrey Pines. The gala opened with champagne, auctions and mingling followed by a dinner with the fabulous MC Karen Moyer! Karen spoke about her Foundation giving us an insight of what children go through. She had young speakers share the stage with her to tell their stories about their struggles and how the Moyer Foundation has changed each of their lives. It was truly inspiring. The stage was also shared by amazing performer and singer Christina Perri who had the audience captivated by her lyrics and voice.
The next day we had an afternoon shotgun start! I was paired with Karen Moyer, Nina Wells, Denise Coleman and Billy! #Besties We also had NHL star Jeremy Roenick join our group for a few holes and we shared many laughs and birdies! Let’s just say… I didn’t want the day to end.
“Our dream in starting the Foundation was to provide a way for the community to give back and feel really good about where their donation was going while making a lasting and positive impact in the lives of children in distress. We are so grateful to all those who join our team, enabling the Foundation to serve more children in more ways each year.” -Karen Moyer
My sister Nisha was also a part of the event and played with our good friend Lonnie Stewart! She and her team had a great time as well, also sharing many laughs and memories! At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about, being able to support friends and family, giving back to those in need and doing it with a smile
FUN FACT: “ONE LAST HUG” is a 2014 Emmy Award Winning film that takes us into the The Moyer Foundation’s, Camp Erin, and tells a story on how death and grief affect children. The Emmy award was for outstanding children’s programming. The film, which premiered on HBO in April 2014 is currently available on HBO, HBO Go and HBO On Demand. Congratulations to The Moyer Foundation for your Emmy!
Thank you Karen Moyer, Jamie Moyer and The Moyer Foundation for having me at your event! I look forward to being a part of your Golf Classic next year and hope that I still get to keep the same “featured” group:)
