Today I have one of bestest friends here talk to us about golf, health and fitness!
Kim Kouwabunpat (aka Kimmy/Kimmy-Kams/Kammy/Kim Can-You-One-Putt?) and I have played several junior and amateur golf tournaments together.
We have been so lucky to maintain our great friendship on and off the course!
Kimmy is the god mother of my little angel kitty cat Juicy and is the best god mother ever:)
Kimmy has always motivated me with my workouts and the importance of staying fit! Whenever she comes to visit me in Las Vegas she takes me on runs outside and encourages me to step away from the treadmill while enjoying the beautiful nature! She challenges me to keep up with her, and I have to tell you, it is not easy!
Let’s talk to Kim about staying fit and get some quick health and golf workout tips!
SEEMA STYLE: How did you get started into golf?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: My Dad introduced me to golf when I was about 9 years old… He took me to the driving range at a local 9-hole executive golf course called Indian Hills GC. My first shot was with his Tommy Armour Silver Scot 845 7-iron and I hit it about 100 yards with decent trajectory! Needless to say, I’ve been hooked ever since! 🙂

SEEMA STYLE: Tell me about your collegiate years at Stanford? What did you major in?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend my college years… I loved my 4 years on The Farm! I earned my B.A. in Psychology.
SEEMA STYLE: What was it like playing on the golf team? What was it like juggling school work and sports?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Playing on the golf team with only 7 other teammates, you really feel like they are your sisters. You spend so much time with them traveling on the road, practicing, working out, team events, and yes… some of us even hang out off the golf course! A lot of my fondest memories were times with my golf team.
Juggling school work and golf certainly wasn’t easy, but the athletic department provided great resources for us student-athletes. I also felt that the more I had on my plate, the better I was able to manage all my responsibilities.
SEEMA STYLE: How was it for you transitioning from collegiate golf to professional golf?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: The transition was exciting as I was ready to embark on this journey of pursuing my passion for golf and my dreams of competing on the LPGA. The difference in professional golf is that it truly becomes your full-time job. You become your own brand and you’re running your own business, but not a bad way to spend your work days if you can make a decent living from it! 🙂
SEEMA STYLE: Tell me about your running club in LA?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Dog Haus Running Club is a social running club I started on May 1, 2012. It’s an affiliate club of http://www.ffprunningclubs.org… we are currently 1 of 14 FFP Running Clubs in the US. Our 3 initiatives are Fitness, Fun, and Philanthropy. We meet every Tuesdays at 6pm at Dog Haus Biergarten in Old Town Pasadena (Los Angeles, CA) for a 5K run, yoga, and happy hour… woohoo! There are multiple excuses to show up! 🙂 We’ve grown from 28 members at our first run and now have over 1,100 members today! It’s been an amazing journey from day 1 and I’ve been able to meet so many incredible people in and around the Pasadena community. Come on out and play with us sometime!
SEEMA STYLE: How important is fitness and health for your golf game?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Fitness and Health are not just important to your golf game but also imperative to living a happy lifestyle. Related to your golf game, improving your stability, strength, and flexibility will consequently produce a more consistent and powerful golf swing… lower scores truly stem from a great short game. Drive for show, Putt for dough! 🙂
SEEMA STYLE: What is your favorite song that pumps you up when you are running?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: I’m an 80’s baby! On my playlist, you’ll most likely find Heart, Taylor Dayne, Journey, Toto, Blondie, and Anita Baker… but you also may find a little Janet Jackson, U2, Lady Gaga, Pink, Mary J Blige, and Beyonce 🙂
SEEMA STYLE: Who would be in your dream foursome?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: It would have to be a football legend, a hot golfer, and a dream career mentor… Peyton Manning, Adam Scott, and Michele Tafoya…
SEEMA STYLE: Do you have a nickname?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Bunz! (amoung the other names I have for her!)
SEEMA STYLE: What is your favorite color to paint your nails?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: My favorite color is lime green! …but I don’t paint my nails that color haha! I’m a natural girl… so it’s clear gloss for me 🙂
SEEMA STYLE: Can you give us one workout tip to help us stay fit?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: Make it your goal to just Break a Sweat everyday! You’ll be surprised what a habit you’ll make of incorporating fitness into you daily lives. Be creative and try new workouts! You may stumble upon a new workout you love!
SEEMA STYLE: Can you give us one health tip to help us stay healthy?
KIM KOUWABUNPAT: As long as you’re putting healthy efficient calories into your system, you can throw calorie-counting out the window! Yes… it IS possible to eat healthy and enjoy tasty food at the same time. Also, remember to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. For a healthy snack, I love apples and almond butter… yummy!
