In China, the evening before Chinese New Year Day families celebrate and gather for their annual reunion dinner. It is a tradition for families to perfectly cleanse the house and sweep away bad fortune and bring in good luck. Windows and doors are decorated with red color paper-cuts with popular themes of “good fortune”, “happiness”, and “wealth”. Families also give members of their families money in red paper envelopes. I remember receiving a red-envelope from a friend, and it was a sweet and kind experience.
FUN FACTS: Did you know the at Firecrackers were invented by the Chinese? Firecrackers have been a tradition for celebration for thousands of years. They are rumored to ward off evil and are a symbol of happiness and prosperity!
