My #Guestie today is Chauncey Billups from the Los Angeles Clippers!!! Here is a fun #BFF/#TBT pic from 2003! It seems like just yesterday, but it has been 10 years?! We have been working on his golf game for that long!!! 🙂 Let’s talk #Golf, #Basketball and #Fashion~
SEEMA STYLE: How did you get started into golf?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: I started playing golf because it was a sport that fit in between my basketball season. I wanted to do something but I also wanted to compete with what I was doing. I was looking for something to do with my friends. I tried golf a few times, and ended up really liking it. It was peaceful and I could compete with myself. I really enjoy the game.
SEEMA STYLE: What is the best part of your golf game?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: Probably my chipping! I have great touch around the greens.
SEEMA STYLE: How do you find time to play golf with your busy schedule?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: I make time to play golf. I enjoy playing the game so it is easy. I like being with my friends and being active, so it is pretty easy to find time. I like to put away my phone when I play too, just golf and relax.
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: Adidas treats me right and make clothes that suit my style. Golf clothes are casual, I wear stuff that I can swing in. I like being comfortable on the course.
SEEMA STYLE: What clubs do you play?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: Taylormade all the way through!
SEEMA STYLE: What is your coolest golf purchase?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: I bought this Garmin wrist watch that tells me my distance to the pin wherever I am on the course. Seems, you know I don’t like to have my phone on me when I play, so I am not into distance apps on my phone. My Garmin distance watch is my best accessory on the course, it looks good and it is perfect for me.
SEEMA STYLE: What are the similarities mentally and/or physically in golf and basketball?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: Mentally, in both sports you have to be focused all the time. You can’t lose focus on the golf course or on the court if you want to play well for the entire game. Being a point guard you have to be very sharp mentally, so I can find similarities in both games that way. There is a lot of creativity and imagination that goes into playing both sports. Physically, it can only work as an advantage in golf if you are flexible and strong, but I know in basketball it is a must.
SEEMA STYLE: Are pressure freethrows like pressure 5 footers?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: (Laugh) YES! AND my five footers are pretty good!!!
SEEMA STYLE: We all feel pressure, even an amateur golfer! You work with young kids trying to become the best athletes they can be through your Academy. How do you help them handle pressure? What do you think about under pressure situations on the court? How do they help you stay calm and in control?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: I always rely on the hard work that I put in! That is why you work hard in the gym and at practice. So when you are put in pressure situations, you are fully prepared to execute the shot you need to. In golf, I would think putting in real work on the range and around the greens is the process of preparing and trusting your work.
SEEMA STYLE: If you could pick your dream foursome, who would it be?
CHAUNCEY BILLUPS: You would be my first pick Seems! But if I can’t pick you then I would go with Steve Stricker, Freddie Couples and Bubba Watson, Bubba is a good friend.
SEEMA STYLE: Chauncey, you are the best! Thank you for sharing all your fun insight! I can’t wait to tee-it-up this summer. I really do think you need a twitter because all your teammates have one and you are totally being left out!:( For now, the Garmin will be just fine:)
