I’m going to share with you an easy approach to hitting a nice and smooth bunker shot. In order to be successful out of the bunker, your set up to the ball plays the biggest role. Make sure your feet, shoulders and body are slightly open to your target and your ball is forward in your stance. Get comfortable and think these 2 thoughts…
#1 Thought: SPLASH THE BALL IN THE AIR!
The beauty about hitting a great bunker shot is that you don’t need to hit the ball, you just need to splash the sand behind it! The ball will splash up in the air and onto the green!
#2 Thought: MAINTAIN AN OPEN CLUB FACE!
Keep your wrists strong and your club face open throughout the entire shot, even in your finish. In a regular golf shot, you rotate your hands through, but with a bunker shot, picture your club face staying open at impact and in your finish position, just like I am in the picture.
The key to hitting a great bunker shot is following through and have have your body face the target. Make sure not to jab at the ball, sweep right through the sand! Commit to your full finish and with practice will have a success out of the bunkers!
